Update on Mandatory Influenza Shots

The bottom line is you do not have to take the shot prior to December 4, 2009.  Also, even if you decide to take the shot, you do not have to take the shot at WHC.  You can have the shot given by your private physician, at a clinic, pharmacy, or wherever you chose.  At least a week prior to the deadline we will inform you on the status of our dialog with WHC and the status of any legal actions that we have taken against WHC to stop this injustice.

Again, it is the Union’s position that the influenza shot should be taken on a voluntary basis. As a matter of fact, we have been given a copy of an arbitrator’s decision ruling in a very similar case that the employer could not make the taking of the flu shot mandatory. We will try to put these decisions on our website for your viewing.  If you do not want to take the shot then our advice is to wait until you have received information from us as to whether or not we were successful in preventing WHC from making the shot mandatory.

Daniel Fields Jr.
President
